Velarose powered up the stand’s rail to make an impressive winning debut in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction Maiden at Dundalk.

The Mark Fahey-trained filly went to post an 11/1 shot in the seven furlong contest and tucked in behind the leaders in the early stages.

Shane Foley switched right to close passing the two pole and the daughter of Inns Of Court picked up nicely inside the final furlong to record a cosy three length success over Flanker Jet

The winner cost just 3,500 euro as a yearling. Her dam was placed nine times without winning.

Foley said: "We liked her early on in the year and she just went a bit weak on us. In fairness, Mark gave her all the time she needed.

"She was here 10 days ago for a little school around and she enjoyed it - she gave me a real nice feel.

"She did everything right probably because she has a little bit of ability.

"She's a nice filly and it was probably an above-average race as well, there was plenty of talking horses.

"I saw she was in and only had 8st 8lb, and it would be light enough this time of year for me, so I told the lads she would win with 2lb over!

"It all worked out and I'd say she is a filly that mightn't be in Ian's (McCarthy) colours the next day we see her. If she doesn't go to America, she could be a stakes filly for next year.

"She picked up well there and has had a good look when she has got to the front. She's a filly that wants to go a mile. The pace was honest today and she stayed well. I think she would be more comfortable going a mile, even a mile and a-quarter.

"I loved the way she picked up and she was still quite green leaning a little bit left, but I think there is plenty of improvement."
