Vervain (10/3) came out on the right side of a photograph with Whats New to take the concluding 1m4f handicap in Cork.

She came through for Gary Carroll to lead inside the final couple of furlongs, but the pair couldn't put the race away in the final furlong. Whats New finished well to really serve it up to Vervain in the closing stages and it was nip and tuck all the way from there.

Vervain just held a narrow advantage going by the post and it was confirmed to be a head victory over the 15/8 favourite.

Joseph Murphy said: "She is a very honest filly and I think she will make into a fantastic broodmare as she has beautiful conformation with a lovely pedigree. She is sound in wind and limb and I would recommend her to anyone as a top-class broodmare.

"I think 1m2f is her trip so we got away with it (1m4f) today - she'll definitely go back to 1m2f the next day."
