Vico one to watch at Wincanton Vico, the Paul Nicholls 'pigeon catcher' from his Racing Post column last Saturday, makes his debut under Rules in the opener at Wincanton today, the Blackmore Building Contractors Novices' Hurdle. Nicholls described the Old Vic gelding as "an exciting prospect" in a stable tour. He went on: "A dual point winner in England last season who comes from a great jumping family. He has needed time up to now and pointing has helped him develop. He will also novice hurdle before making a chaser." Dangers to Vico in this two mile six furlong contest include Triggerman, who reportedly hung badly last time, Midnight Appeal, who has looked all about stamina and Molanna View. The latter like Vico, is by Old Vic, and he is a year younger at four. The Jack Doyle-ridden once-raced bumper horse is well-regarded by the Emma Lavelle stable. Vico was bought originally from the late Tom Costello in County Clare and Nick Williams, who rode him to victory in an open maiden over two and a half miles at Larkhill in March, described him as: "The best I've ever sat on."
