For the second evening in succession, Emmet Mullins and John Gleeson teamed up to win with a well backed newcomer as Vitorio Piel made all the running to land the DAR Golf Construction (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Punchestown.

Available at 8/1 overnight, the five-year-old proved popular with festival punters, supported at all rates down to 7/4f.

Sent straight to the front by Gleeson, the Spanish Moon gelding travelled strongly throughout. Kicking clear off the home bend, he soon had matters in hand. It's Only A Game momentarily looked like bridging the gap when emerging from the chasing pack but he could find no extra from over a furlong out.

Vitorio Piel galloped on strongly to win by an easy six-lengths to complete a fine week for Emmet Mullins.

Mullins said:- “That’s brilliant. He had been showing plenty at home.

“He’s a lovely big horse, straightforward and uncomplicated. John said there wasn’t much pace so I gave him free reign to just bounce out handy and see how he found it.

“I’d say he’s probably more of a top of the ground horse than yesterday’s guy but he’s an exciting horse too.

“You have to keep looking forward and they are two fair bullets to have for novices’ next season.

“It’s huge to finish strong. It’s was a frustrating enough season up to now but it’s nice to go out and finish it off well.”
