The Comer Group International Irish St Leger is the feature event on day two of Irish Champions Weekend and one of the most famous multiple winners of the race Vinnie Roe passed away last week.

Dermot Weld trained the son of Definite Article to claim the classic four years on the bounce, from 2001 to 2004.

He also numbered the Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak among his 13 career victories.

Vinnie Roe most recently stood as a stallion at Longford House Stud in Tipperary but was retired from covering duties in 2019.

The stud posted on Facebook:-

We, at Longford House Stud are sad to announce the passing of our great stallion, Vinnie Roe. He lived a long and happy retirement since 2019. He died peacefully after his morning feed. He is now among the stars in Irish Racing with 4 St. Leger wins to his name.

A special mention goes to John Balwin for all the care, love and attention that he gave Vinnie in his retirement.

Rest in peace, our friend.
