Voler has Christmas options

Voler La Vedette could have her next start in the Listed Mares Hurdle on the final day of the Leopardstown Christmas Festival, although the Colm Murphy-trained mare also holds an entry in the Grade 1 two miler on the same card.

The five-year-old made it six wins from just eight starts when slamming Go Native by 13 lengths in a Grade 3 at Down Royal last time, and that form was paid a huge compliment with the runner-up going on to land the 'Fighting Fifth' Hurdle at Newcastle last weekend.

The daughter of King's Theatre was initially put up 10lb to a new rating of 151 after the Down Royal win but the handicapper has had a rethink following Go Native's Newcastle success and given her another 3lb. Incidentally Go Native has risen 17lb to a new mark of 164 after Saturday's Grade 1 triumph.

Murphy is not getting too carried away with the bare reading of the Down Royal form, saying "I was delighted with the way things worked out at the weekend."

"She'll have an entry in the December Hurdle at Leopardstown and also in the mares' race there and we'll discuss it amongst ourselves. I imagine she would go for the mares races and then on to the Irish Champion Hurdle, and we'll see where we go from there."

"I was delighted to see Go Native win but they were two very different races so you can't take it too literally. He looked a different horse at Newcastle than in Down Royal too but I was pleased enough to see him win."
