Vote Of Confidence over turned the odds-on favourite Alpha Des Obeaux in the opener at Cork, the corkracecourse.ie Maiden Hurdle, scoring under Mark Enright for Dessie Hughes and the Confidence Partnership.

The American bred chestnut won on the level for Andrew Oliver at Dundalk last year and he was having his fourth start over flights this afternoon having finished fifth to Talk The Lingo (runs in the next) at Roscommon on his last start.

Sent off at 7/1 he was prominent throughout and came with his challenge before the second last.

He hit the front before the last and kept on gamely to see off Alpha Des Obeaux by a length and three parts.

The runner-up was returned the 4/5 market leader under Bryan Cooper for Mouse Morris, while Motown Bob was seven and a half lengths back in third under Andrew Lynch for

Henry De Bromhead at 7/1 (opened at 10/1 this morning). Mark Enright said afterwards: "The race was run to suit him as they went quite steady.

"After we bypassed the third last he really quickened going to the second last and he had two good jumps. His flat speed was a big help to him."
