Walford `50-50´ For Kingscliff Ride

Robert Walford´s chances of being fit to ride Kingscliff in the Stan James King George VI Chase at Sandown on St Stephen's Day have been described as '50-50' after he suffered a hairline fracture of his collar bone.

The 25-year-old jockey was schooling a horse at Robert Alner´s Dorset yard when the accident happened and he was taken to Blandford hospital for X-rays.

'He´s got a hairline fracture. You can hardly see it on the X-ray. He´s back at home now and he´s not going to move for five days because he wants to get better. He´s not going to move an inch,' said Alner´s wife, Sally.

'His chances of being fit for Kingscliff in the King George are 50-50.

'He had an X-ray and my youngest daughter took him in. She said on the X-ray you could just see it. His collar bone has not moved or anything like that.'

Walford has ridden Kingscliff on both of his starts this term and landed the biggest win of his career when claiming the scalp of Kicking King in the Betfair Chase at Haydock last month.

Kingscliff is the general 9-4 second-favourite behind Kicking King to go one place better then when beaten two and a half lengths by that rival 12 months ago.
