Walsh Has An Outside Chance

Ted Walsh reckons he has 'two outside chances' of landing a second Grand National success in Saturday's John Smith's-sponsored marathon.

The Naas trainer, who sent out Papillon to take the Aintree spoils in 2000, will be represented by the 13-year-old Rince Ri and Jack High, last season's Betfred Gold Cup winner.

Jack High, owned by solicitor Brenda Ross, has been quietly campaigned for the National following his victory at Down Royal in March.

Last season, the 11-year-old emerged as a potential candidate for the National following his second in the Irish National and when winning the Betfred Gold Cup at Sandown.

Partnered by jockey David Casey for the first time, Walsh is happy with the horse's preparation.

'David had a sit on Jack High at the end of last week and was really pleased with him. He jumped well and he's pleased with the way he feels, he's looking forward riding him on Saturday,' said Walsh.

The trainer is also happy with Rince Ri, saying: 'He is also in good order ? I think they've both got an outside chance. He is definitely an Aintree horse.

'Rince Ri is a classy horse and would be every bit as good as Papillon but he hasn't won a race for a couple of seasons and he is that little bit older.

'I don't think they can beat Hedgehunter but it's the National and anything can happen.'

Bookmakers rate Jack High a 14-1 chance with Rince Ri available at 100-1.
