Brian Hamilton's stable star Warne is likely to return to action next month before defending his crown in the Fox Hunters' Chase at Aintree in April.

The 11-year-old ran out a brilliant winner over the famous Grand National fences last spring under Sam Waley-Cohen and went on to finish third at the Punchestown Festival.

He has not been seen in competitive action since, but is set for an imminent comeback.

Hamilton said: "He'll run at either Kirkistown (point-to-point) in two and a half weeks' time or Fairyhouse the week after.

"The race at Fairyhouse is over two-mile-five and he has won it the last two years.

"Our main aim is Liverpool again. He has a few small, niggly problems but we have them ironed out now.

"The plan is Kirkistown or Fairyhouse and hopefully that will leave him right for Liverpool.

"He could have one more run in between."
