Warrior has York & Leopardstown aims Saxon Warrior is set to drop back in trip after having to settle for third in Saturday's Irish Derby at the Curragh. Winner of the 2000 Guineas, Saxon Warrior also finished fourth in the Derby at Epsom, but trainer Aidan O'Brien is now eager to switch to 10 furlongs with the son of Deep Impact. He said: "He's good, not a bother on him. He'll have a little rest now and he’ll come back and be trained for the mile and a quarter races at York (Juddmonte International) and Leopardstown. That's the plan." Ryan Moore believes the decision to switch back to 10 furlongs will play to Saxon Warrior’s strengths following his three-quarter-length defeat at the Curragh. He told At The Races: "I'd have to say it was an improved run on Epsom. "He ran very well. Obviously it was disappointing he got beat, but it was a messy sort of a race really. "It’s disappointing he’s been beat twice since the Guineas, where he was so good, but I’d like to think he’ll be be better when he comes down in trip. "He’s had a couple of tough races, so hopefully we’ll get him back to the way he was in the Guineas and get him back on track."
