Weather takes toll on Galway attendance

Heavy rain at the start of racing was a major factor in a poor crowd on the Friday evening at the Galway festival. 18,258 people made the trip to the course this year compared to 28,336 in 2008.

The Tote did somewhat better considering the attendance posting an aggregate for the day of €817,570 against a figure of €1,031,995 last year.

The bookmakers returned a poor figure of €1,533,968 down almost €1.2million from last year's takings of €2,716,124
