Weekend Could See Return Of Griffin Ace

Eoin Griffin was able to breathe a sigh of relief as the rains finally came in Ireland at the weekend, enabling him to make plans for his exciting Kazal as he prepares to embark on a novice chasing career.

The six-year-old has won six of his seven races, with his only defeat coming on his second start behind Aran Concerto in the Barry And Sandra Kelly Memorial Novice Hurdle.

However, he is rather dependant of soft ground and Griffin has entered him at Gowran Park this weekend.

'I have him entered in a two-and-a-half-mile novice chase at Gowran on Saturday and I'll make a decision later in the week,' said Griffin.

'He just might need another gallop or two and we'll be working him later in the week and we'll make a decision then, but he's near enough there.

'The more testing it is the better for him and we have had a fair bit of rain here. I would think it will be soft ground from here on in now.

'His form is rock-solid. He's beaten Aitmatov and Chomba Womba and both of those have won already this season.

'But he needs to get back on a track and prove that he can do it over fences. We're looking forward to getting him out.

'He has an entry in the Drinmore (December 2). That that might come a bit quick, but he was very tough last year. We'll just take it one step at a time.'
