Fairyhouse hosts a fascinating card on Saturday and the feature race is the Dan & Joan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase. It’s run over 2m1f and there’s a substantial prize fund of €100,000 on offer.

The action kicks off with a potentially hot juvenile hurdle at 12.00 and concludes at 15:24 with a bumper which isn’t to be missed.

Our expert has had a look at the card and picked out four strong fancies, who can be combined to form a Lucky 15.

12.00 Fairyhouse - Proactif

This looks like a very interesting two-horse race, with the two strongest candidates hailing from the Willie Mullins yard. There doesn’t appear to be much between Proactif and Macho Man, judging by their very similar profiles.

The JP McManus-owned Proactif is set to be ridden by Mark Walsh and he was an impressive winner at Auteuil for previous connections. Well on top at the finish, he won going away and kicked clear to score by six lengths.

Mullins has won the last four renewals of the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and an impressive performance here surely puts him in the picture.

12:30 Fairyhouse - Bambino Fever

Bambino Fever was impressive in all four of her bumper starts last season and she managed to pull off the Cheltenham and Punchestown Grade 1 double. The form of her Cheltenham success is working out very well.

Idaho Sun and No Drama This End finished sixth and ninth respectively that day and both have since gone on to win Grade 1s over hurdles. She was too good again at Punchestown and expectations for this season are understandably high.

Mullins’ mare was narrowly denied on her first start over hurdles at Naas last month and she’s likely to improve significantly for the run. There will be more than a few people scratching their heads if she fails to get the job done at the second time of asking in this Fairyhouse race.

13:40 Fairyhouse - Inthepocket

Henry de Bromhead’s recent form has been much more encouraging, after a couple of testing months, and Inthepocket appears to have a massive chance in the 13:40.

The son of Blue Bresil was very useful as a novice hurdler and even managed to win a Grade 1 at Aintree. Strong Leader was second behind him that day and he’s now a 156-rated graded hurdler.

An impressive winner over fences at Wexford in October 2024, he ran in a graded race next time and missed the rest of the season through injury. We haven’t seen the best of him over fences yet and he looks well treated enough to run a huge race.

15:24 Fairyhouse - Detroit Maverick

Gordon Elliott has maintained a really strong level of form for most of the season so far and already has 17 bumper winners on the board, at a strike-rate of 27 per cent. He runs two in the 15:24 and the Harry Swan-ridden Detroit Maverick could be the one to side with.

The six-year-old had three starts in point-to-points and managed to win the last of those at Ballyknock by three lengths. Making his first start under rules here, it would be no surprise to see him come out on top.
