Weld gets off the mark for new season Eight-time champion trainer Dermot Weld got off the mark for the new season today, as his Juddmonte Stud-owned Bay Of Stars (7/2) landed Dundalk’s Put The Fun In Fundraising At Dundalk Maiden under jockey Colin Keane. Placed sixth on a course debut last November, the colt son of New Bay and Irish Derby-entrant raced prominently and while he edged left in the closing stages, scored by a half-length from I Hope You Dance . Jockey Keane had partnered Bay Of Stars’ dam Heliac to win at Listed level in 2020, and today reported "his dam’s side came out, as she stayed very well and I'd say he gets that trip (1m4f) well. “The step up in trip helped and he was very raw on his first day. I actually got to sit on him at home in the spring and we thought he had come forward. Mr Weld was pretty happy with him at home. "He jumps well (from stalls), then relaxes and switches off, but probably switches off too well at times. When I got stuck into him, he was there for me though It is only his second day, so is entitled to do that, and hopefully he can keep progressing." Quotes from Michael Graham
