Dermot Weld has raised doubts about Forgotten Rules running in next year's Ascot Gold Cup as he is unlikely to get his favoured soft conditions.

Weld has also stated that any idea he had of taking him to Australia for the Melbourne Cup at some stage is probably off the agenda also for the same reason.

Having won at Ascot on Champions Day last season in heavy ground, Weld is hoping for similar conditions again in October.

"He's a very high class stayer and I think it's pretty well proven when he was just beaten in the Gold Cup at Ascot that he really needs to get his toe in and have a good cut in the ground," he said.

"It does restrict us because if you think of a Melbourne Cup that will be pretty well out and we'll review the possibility of the Gold Cup for him next year.

"You must remember on Champions Day at Ascot last October he was pretty impressive and that and the Irish St Leger will be his targets.

"We had his ground on Champions Day last year but who's to say he'll get it this year."
