Wexford 1, 2 as Porter beats Victoria

Benefit of Porter, who finished second to Apt Manor in a 1m 6f Lady Riders Handicap at Tramore on Saturday, shown no ill affects from that outing, as she took the Listowel Race Directors Mares Beginners Chase for trainer Pat Sinnott and jockey Barry Geraghty.

The daughter of Beneficial has been a good money-spinner for connections, racking up her fourth career win here.

She won her bumper at Tramore a year ago and followed up that victory with a fourteen length win at Down Royal in a maiden hurdle in August. She then went back to Tramore and won a handicap hurdle at the August Festival.

The well backed evens favourite Our Victoria under Davy Russell was always prominent and led from 3 out. She was joined by the winner 2 out and was soon beaten. She did however rally late on but it was too little too late, going down by three parts of a length at the line. Clan Music at 20/1 for Mossey Joe's trainer Declan McNamara ran a good race to finish a further two and a half lengths back in third, with a long gap of eighteen lengths back to the fourth placed horse Credit Box

Winning trainer Patrick Sinnott said afterwards: "That was a very good performance for her first run over fences. Had she won in Tramore on Saturday it would have been one hell of a weekend!

"It was a nice pot on offer here today, so we said we'd take our chance. She might have a mini break now and will mix it between the flat and jumps over the summer". (DM)
