Whelan enjoys a stroll on Grafton Street Well-bred Ballydoyle newcomer Grafton Street (4/1), out of Oaks runner-up Ennistymon, landed Listowel's Eric Browne Memorial Maiden in the hands of Ronan Whelan. Whelan, who has now ridden five winners from 12 rides in recent weeks for trainer Aidan O'Brien including Group One success aboard Precise in the Moyglare Stud Stakes, sat third on Mrs John Magnier's Wootton Bassett colt. Pushed along to lead over a furlong out, the winner stayed on well to score by two and a quarter lengths from Sears Crossing.  Whelan said:"He is a big strapping colt who is very laid-back, so I'd say was both mentally and physically backwards. Even today he was only ready to start off so whatever he did, he is going to improve for it. "He was an absolute gentleman, he went down to post like a handicapper and stood in the gates after being the first one in. He popped, travelled and went on about his business very professionally. He was a pleasure. "You don't want to break momentum on this ground and ideally I'd have preferred if the runner-up had led me further, but I didn't want to be a sitting duck to something coming from behind either. He couldn't have done any more than he was asked." Additional reporting by Tom Weekes
