When Harry met his match in Mickey Those that raced prominently held sway in Dundalk’s seven-furlong handicap which was won by Mickey The Steel (9/1). Rory Mulligan brought his mount to the front after a furlong and a half and set the fractions to suit himself. Strong-travelling favourite Send Harry, bidding to repeat last year’s victory in the race, joined issue approaching the final furlong but Lisa Sheridan’s durable eight-year-old pulled out more to score by half a length. It was a sixth career win for Mickey The Steel, led up by trainer Joseph Murray. “He used to be good over five (furlongs) in soft or heavy ground a couple of years ago, but he goes on any ground and he wants that distance when it’s a bit quicker, especially up here,” said Mulligan after recording his fifth winner of the month. “I won on him over five in Navan nearly two years ago, but five would be a bit sharp for him now, I think. “He pinged the gates, did everything right, travelled really well the whole way and still quickened to the line.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
