Whipper Plans Remain Unmade

A decision will not be made on Whipper´s participation in the Prix Jaques le Marois until Thursday at the earliest.

The four-year-old colt completed a clean sweep of Group One contests at Deauville yesterday with a classy victory in the Prix Maurice de Gheest.

Robert Collet´s charge, who has also won the Prix Morny and the Marois at the Normandy course, has been given a clean bill of health after coming out of the extended six-furlong event unscathed.

However, Collet will leave it until later in the week before deciding whether Whipper will defend his crown in the Marois on Sunday.

'He is in perfect condition this morning and we are very happy with him,' said Collet.

'There were no problems after the race. He is on course.

'We will not think about the Marois until Thursday or Friday. It will be a good chance for him but it depends on the conditions and the ground.

'We must wait and see.'

Coral have cut Whipper from 12-1 to 6-1 to win the mile event after holding off Goodricke´s late surge to win the Maurice de Gheest by half a length.

Unbeaten filly Divine Proportions remains red-hot favourite for the Group One race though and is quoted as a 10-11 chance with the same firm.

Meanwhile, Collet reported exciting prospect New Girlfriend to be in rude health ahead of the Prix Morny on August 21.

The daughter of Diesis is unbeaten on her two outings to a racecourse and is a leading fancy to earn Collet another success in the race.

The two-year-old is also entered for the Group One Meon Valley Stud Fillies´ Mile and the Sky Bet Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket in September, but the Chantilly-based trainer has yet to plan that far ahead.

'New Girlfriend has been very quiet but is also in perfect condition,' added Collet.

'We are looking forward to the Morny and will think about Newmarket after that race.'
