The Irish Flat Jockeys' Championship is shaping up to be a compelling title race and the current market reflects just how tight it is at the top.

Last year’s champion Dylan Browne McMonagle currently heads the betting at 11-8, with Billy Lee at 7-4 and former champion jockey, Colin Keane, hot on their heels at around 9-4.

The Irish Angle team of former jockey Paddy Flood, presenter and pundit Emma Nagle and journalist Johnny Ward give their verdicts on what looks like a fascinating contest.

Paddy Flood

I'll stick with Dylan. I think Billy deserves to be a champion. He's a cracking rider, I’ve always rated Billy very highly. But just like we said there, he might just be limited with numbers.

Whereas Joseph O’Brien - it’s one horse in, one horse out basically, he has 200 - 300 horses.

As a champion jockey, that's what you need. You need numbers, and Dylan is still a young man. He'll travel anywhere.

He'll go to England one night and be back to ride the next day. So for me, he's probably good value at 11-8.

Emma Nagle

I'm going to stick with Billy. I think he'll give it a good rattle this year.

Maybe he was a bit disappointed to miss out on a fair chunk of last season after he had that bad fall, he broke his collarbone and had to get surgery on that, but I'm sure he'll give it a good go this year.

It'll be an exciting race because even Colin, you couldn't rule him out.

Even if he has to go to England a couple of times a week, I'm sure he'll still be putting himself right up there.

Johnny Ward

It’s very very tough. I'd like to see Billy win it. I'd like to see him get a share of that prize. I think it's something that if you could even win it once and say you were champion jockey at one stage, it'd be a great help.

His main yard is in incredible form at the moment. But it's tricky because Colin is obviously handicapped by the fact that he won't be here for some of the big weekend meetings.

Then you've the juggernaut of Dylan Browne who will be doing his share of travelling as well, which maybe Billy won't be doing as much, but it's a tough one to call.
