Emma Nagle has backed Dylan Browne McMonagle to get “massive international rides”.

Speaking on irishracing.com’s Irish Angle show this week, Nagle delivered her verdict with Browne McMonagle on the verge of clinching his first Irish Flat Racing Jockey Championship title.

The 22-year-old is eight winners clear of Colin Keane who won the title in the past five years but was appointed as Juddmonte’s retained rider in the UK earlier this season.

However, Nagle suggested that Browne McMonagle’s efforts this season would have seen him beat Keane regardless of the 31-year-old’s new job.

She explained: “He’s a brilliant rider and very articulate as well, which helps build his international appeal. He’s going to Hong Kong this winter.

“He’s on 95 winners, and I think normally the sweet spot for a champion jockey is just getting over the 100 mark.

“You can say maybe Colin is a bit unlucky that he has to go to England, but if Dylan gets up to 100 winners anyway, you could probably make the argument that he might have beaten Colin regardless.

“It’s great to see the competition in it — two brilliant riders. We’ve got some really high-quality jockeys in Ireland, and Dylan’s one that’s on the up and one you could imagine getting massive international rides down the line because he’s really marketing himself very well and he’s just a brilliant rider.

“It’s a pity to see he won’t be riding Al Riffa in Australia — I think there’s an Australian jockey going to ride him down there. Obviously, Australian Bloodstock own him, so they probably made that decision.

No Regrets For Keane

Fellow panelists irishracing.com editor Vincent Finegan and Johnny Ward insisted that Keane will not regret taking his new role.

Finegan said: “It looks like Field Of Gold is going to be back next year as well, so he’ll have that to look forward to. I don’t think he’ll be too bothered that he’s lost the championship.”

Ward added: “From Colin’s perspective, this is disappointing, but he’s not going to lose sleep over it, and he’s losing to a very, very good rider.”

The Irish Flat season ends on Sunday 2nd November at the Curragh with both Keane and Browne McMonagle heading to Del Mar for the Breeders’ Cup on Friday and Saturday before then.
