Wolf Back At York

Amadeus Wolf is reported to be in rude health ahead of his seasonal reappearance in the Duke Of York Stakes at York on May 16.

The four-year-old endured a somewhat frustrating campaign last term, finishing a creditable seventh in the 2000 Guineas before being placed in a number of top sprints without getting his head in front, including when second to Reverence in the Nunthorpe.

'In fairness he never ran a bad race last year,' reasoned trainer Kevin Ryan.

'Once or twice the ground was really against him, especially in the Haydock Park Sprint Cup where it was heavy.

'He was a three-year-old then but he has done really well over the winter and he looks a much bigger, stronger horse now.

'He's done a couple of pieces of fast work so far and he has worked very, very well.

'He'll start off at York in May and after that his season is pretty much mapped out.

'Royal Ascot for the Golden Jubilee, the July Cup, Haydock and then we'll see how he is at the end of the year.

'I was delighted with how consistent he was last year and things probably just didn't work out for him with the ground, but I'm sure he'll make up for it this year.'
