Carrigmoorna Wood followed-up on her recent point-to-point success at Stowlin, as she took the p2p.ie The Irish Point To Point Website Mares Point-To-Point Flat Race.
The Robert Tyner trained daughter of Shantou was sent off at 4/1 this evening with Derek O'Connor aboard for owners, the Old Fools Partnership.
Settled in mid-division, the bay five-year-old took closer order approaching the straight, and travelled best to lead a furlong from home.
She was soon ridden, and kept on well in the closing stages to see off the challenge of the 6/5 favourite Lorvon Pearl by three lengths.
Patrick Mullins was aboard the runner-up for Jessica Harrington, while the well-backed Siege Of Tobruk (20s this morning, returned 7s) completed the placings fourteen lengths back in third.
Tyner said afterwards: "We were a bit weak about her because she disappointed in a bumper at Cork two runs ago but that was on unraceable ground and it caught her out a bit.
"She won her point to point 10 days ago but didn't have a hard race. He (O'Connor) was oozing confidence from a long way out and she did it lovely.
"She might now go for a winners' bumper but mightn't want real deep ground and will go hurdling in the autumn."
STEWARDS REPORTS
The Stewards interviewed Mr R.J. Kiely, rider of Bonnie Lily concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr R.J. Kiely was in breach of R10(3)(c) by the unnecessary hitting of his mount after it had clearly obtained it's maximum placing. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr R.J. Kiely for 1 raceday.
The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr L. Walsh, that Mr D.P. Murphy, rider of Siege Of Tobruk, had weighed in at 1.2 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that he had changed the girths after weighing out and did not realise that it would amount to as much overweight. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that Mr D.P. Murphy was in breach of Rule 231 (ii) by weighing in more than 1 lb overweight and furthermore by his admission in evidence he was further found to be in breach of Rule 198 (vi) by knowingly changing an article that had been put in the scales on weighing out. Having taken his previous record into consideration, the Stewards suspended Mr D.P. Murphy for 3 racedays.
