Workmanlike for Hmas Perth at the Curragh The Aidan O'Brien-trained Hmas Perth was a workmanlike winner of the Birmingham Cameras Irish European Breeders Fund Maiden. Sent off the 30-100 favourite, the son of Justify, who had two good runs under his belt behind the likes of Trean and One Number, and then in Doncaster when finishing second to the Charlie Appleby-trained Al Jabbar, broke out under Wayne Lordan and tried to make all. For a couple of moments, it looked as if Amo Racing-owned, John O'Donoghue-trained Nonsense was going to come and provide a bit of a shock. Hmas Perth managed to tough it out to land the contest by a length-and-three-quarters. Speaking after the race, stable representative Chris Armstrong said: "Coming here, he had two very good runs in maidens. He was a bit more workmanlike but, in fairness, the last half-furlong was most impressive. He's probably ready now for a step up in trip. He's a horse with plenty of ability. Whether he gets another run this year or not, Aidan will decide next week. Obviously, he'll step up into stakes company. He has the makings of a lovely horse once he puts everything together. Still a little bit immature but once he goes up in trip he'll be okay." (Quotes from Tom Weekes)
