Yarmouth ready to race again Yarmouth clerk of the course Richard Aldous reports the track in great condition ahead of the venue's first meeting in nearly nine months. The track originally closed in September 2014 to undergo remedial work on the course, but its return to action last year was delayed until August as the new turf needed time to develop. While Yarmouth staged racing as planned that month, officials were forced to abandon halfway through their flagship September meeting following heavy rain and the track has been out of action since. After having its April and May fixtures transferred elsewhere, in order to give the turf further time to mature, the course is now ready for racing after successfully hosting two trial gallops and gaining the approval of the British Horseracing Authority. Aldous said: "The track is in great condition. It is good to firm in the straight and good on the back straight and bends. I am pleased with everything. "Things are always on schedule but it will be a rush to the last minute, although everything has been done and we are ready to race. "The two trials went well. The bends had a slight issue after the first gallop, but that has been sorted out. We are very excited to get racing back again and can't wait." Phil McEntee is one trainer who is particularly looking forward to the track's return having enjoyed many memorable days there, including saddling his first treble in 2014. The Newmarket handler will send four runners to the track for the opening meeting including seven-times course winner Jonnie Skull, who will contest the opening division of the Annual Badge Holders At Great Yarmouth Racecourse Apprentice Handicap. He said: "We went for the trials and track is perfectly level to ride and it looks to be ready. "We missed the place last season as we have some owners who have bought horses especially to run there. "While it might be more competitive with the amount of runners there, at the same time it is a godsend for a yard like ours that it is open again. "I had my first treble at the track and it would be brilliant if I could repeat it. I am really looking forward to it being open and if the sun is shining too, it will be Yarmouth at it's best." Jockey Jamie Spencer has been booked for three rides on the eight-race card tomorrow.
