Yeats Poised For Cup Double

Gold Cup winner Yeats heads a field of 16 for the ABN Goodwood Cup over two miles at the Sussex track tomorrow.

The five-year-old, trained by Aidan O'Brien, put up a championship staying performance when powering home by four lengths from Reefscape at Royal Ascot.

He was ridden by Kieren Fallon that day but as he is currently prohibited from riding in England, Mick Kinane, a former retained jockey at Ballydoyle and who rode Yeats on his racecourse debut in September 2003, will be in the plate.

Five horses who finished behind Yeats in the Gold Cup take him on again ? French raider Reefscape (second), High Action (fourth), Sergeant Cecil (fifth), Tungsten Strike (eighth) and Winged D'Argent (ninth).

The latter's trainer Mark Johnston also runs Golden Quest, while Amanda Perrett is represented by Bulwark as well as Tungsten Strike.

Mick Channon will be hoping Baddam can continue his rich vein of form after winning both the Ascot Stakes and the Queen Alexandra Stakes at the Royal meeting.

Alcazar, who captured the Group One Prix Royal Oak at the age of 10 last October when beating Reefscape by a neck, lines up for Hughie Morrison.

Other veterans include nine-year-old Cover Up, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, and Sir Mark Prescott's eight-year-old Foreign Affairs.

The field is completed by Balkan Knight, Ebtikaar, Geordieland and Land ?n Stars.
