The concluding Ploughman Bar & Grill Handicap produced a cracking finish as smart jumper Zanahiyr bagged another Flat win in the amateur contest.

Josh Williamson tucked in behind the leaders in the two-mile-one contest and squeezed through to launch his challenge two furlongs from home.

The 11/4 shot had a good tussle with Messerschmitt inside the final furlong and stuck on gamely to record a head victory.

Zanahiyr was following up on a chase success at Galway last time. He had won a Flat maiden early in his career before joining Gordon Elliott and was taking his career tally to nine tonight.

Elliott said: "I thought it might be a bit sharp for him, but it was a good performance.

"He galloped to the line and Josh said it took him a while to pull him up. The further he went, the better he got.

"He'll go to the American Grand National now all being well."
