Zebedee claims Childers Zebedee landed his sixth win from seven starts with a cheeky success in the Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster. Richard Hughes brought the 100-30 favourite, trained by Richard Hannon, with a perfectly-timed run to take the Group Two dash over five furlongs in cosy fashion. David Wachman's raider Meow made the running on the near-side rail but was a spent force a quarter of a mile out leaving plenty in with chances as the race hotted up. Hughes had all angles covered as he produced Zebedee with an electric turn of foot to score by a neck from Dinkum Diamond with New Planet three-quarters of a length away third. "I love him, look the size of him he's tiny, I feel like a giraffe on him," said Hughes. "He's got an amazing burst. You wouldn't hear his heartbeat at the start. He hacks down, he stands there like a lamb. "You just put him where you want in a race. You just have to pick the right ones to follow." Owner Julie Wood added: "You know he's never going to win by five lengths, but that is just his style of racing. "He's exceptionally laid back at home - Richard Hughes says you can't even hear his heartbeat - he saves it all for the racecourse. "He's got an entry in the Mill Reef and you've got to take your chance in these big races as he takes his racing so well." Henry Candy said of runner-up Dinkum Diamond: "He wasn't himself at Ascot and he didn't get a run in the Nunthorpe, he's got a bit crowded there but that is because he didn't show enough speed to start with. "He was running on very well and he will want six furlongs from now." John Quinn added of New Planet: "We are very pleased with him, he has stuck at it well and we're delighted with the performance. "We have him in the Abbaye, but we won't kill him. "It was a very good renewal of the race and the form should stack up well. We might have a look at the Cornwallis at Ascot."
