It was a performance somewhat similar to Charles and Philip Byrnes' opening winner at the venue yesterday, as A Boy The Kid (3/1) made all to take the Irish Wire Products (C & G) Maiden Hurdle over two miles and 125 yards at Limerick.

Returning from a 616-day absence, this six-year-old showed glimmers of promise in two bumper runs last year.

Now making his hurdles debut, the son of Califet showed signs of inexperience early on, and he stretched the field out before the fourth hurdle. The Barry Healy-owned gelding faced a challenge from Global Submission (10/11F) before the last; however, he found more and pulled away to win by two lengths on the run-in.

Northern Silence (22/1) was a further 11 lengths back in third.

Winning trainer Charles Byrnes reported that, "he had a couple of good runs in bumpers but had niggly issues since, nothing serious, and was left off for the summer. He came back, as normal, three-and-a-half months ago and he has always showed plenty. He had run a blinder in Windsor first-time out, which turned out a very good bumper.

"He was running around in front today and he'll have learned plenty, so hopefully will improve.

"Myself and Barry Healy (owner) go back a long time and we won a Kerry National together with Alfa Beat. This horse is named after well-known Limerick slang."
