All-weather racing at Dundalk (5.00-8.30) is the sole action in Ireland on Friday after Punchestown was cancelled as parts of the track are unfit for racing.

We have provided three selections and analysis from the action at Dundalk.

Selections

6.00 Dundalk - Thompson Gunner

Thompson Gunner is of some interest at likely each way odds in the meeting’s third race on the card. The Highland Reel gelding shaped with plenty of promise on his first two handicaps at this track last year, filling the places on both occasions.

The first of those efforts came behind Marble Angel, who has won twice since, before he bumped into a well handicapped sort next time, denied by a nose .He has been given a break since a disappointing effort in October but will be a big player if returning to the previous level of form shown at this track.

Cian Hughes and Colin Keane combined for a winner at the track last week and there is a good chance they can repeat the feat on Friday night.

7.00 Dundalk - Cheers Again

Cheers Again should be a major player when he attempts to make it four wins from four starts over the mile trip at Dundalk.

The son of Mukhadram recorded a comfortable success from a 9lb lower mark when last seen on an artificial surface in December 2023 and there looks to be a great chance he can defy his current rating of 86 as he went close in premier handicaps on the turf from higher marks last summer.

The lightly-raced six-year-old has been off the track since June, but clearly goes well fresh, twice winning at this track from absences of 140 days or more.

Paul Flynn’s yard have made a good start the season at Dundalk, which includes landing a winner last week when teaming up with apprentice Nicola Burns, who also claims a handy 7lb.

8.30 Dundalk - Pavillion End

Pavillion End looks worth following in the nightcap as the son of Jack Hobbs is progressing nicely at Dundalk this year. He showed little in bumpers but broke his maiden when switched to this course and distance in January.

He advanced his form further when stepped up to two miles last time, staying the trip well but unable to live with the progressive winner, finishing a little over two lengths down in second. That appeals as strong form though, and the selection should have no problem returning to 1m4f.

Jack Kearney again claims a useful 7lb and this lightly raced gelding can make it two wins from as many starts over course and distance.
