Absolutely Fabulous day in store at Curragh Joanna Lumley will have a race named in her honour on Day 2 of the prestigious Tattersalls Irish Guineas Festival taking place at the Curragh on Sunday 22nd May. The legendary actress who celebrates her 70th birthday this year will be the Curragh’s special guest on the day and will make the presentation of trophies to the winning owner, trainer and jockey of the race, The Joanna Lumley Birthday Celebration Handicap. Ms Lumley commented: “In all my wildest dreams I could never imagine that one day a race would be named after me… and, moreover, for that race to be at the legendary Curragh racecourse. I am thrilled and proud in equal measure and cannot wait for this fabulous day to arrive. My gratitude can’t be measured, except by saying all the heavy horses in Ireland would have to be harnessed to pull the carriage bearing my thanks and delight“ The actress is best known for her roles as Purdy in the New Avengers and Patsy Stone in the hit comedy series Absolutely Fabulous.
