Accent bid hinges on final workout

A final decision will on the participation of Foreign Accent in Saturday`s Entenmann`s Irish 2000 Guineas will be taken after John Gosden`s colt works tomorrow morning.

The son of Machiavellian is set to be the sole British raider in The Curragh contest, for which Aidan O`Brien has eight of the 11 entries, including Sagitta 2000 Guineas hero Rock Of Gibraltar.

Gosden said today: 'I`m going to work him tomorrow morning and if it goes well then we will take him to Hollyhead and put him on the boat.

'Nothing else is flying over so he is going to have to go on the ferry.'

Foreign Accent sluiced up in a Doncaster maiden on heavy ground in October before disappointing in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury on his seasonal reappearance.

'The ground was a little too firm for him at Newbury but he has been fine since,' Gosden said. 'The problem with these backend maidens is that sometimes the winners look better than they are but I do think he is a nice horse.

'You have got to admire Ballydoyle for the way they do these things and I think they are going to be tough to beat all season, they already look like they are going to have a strong hand for something like the St James`s Palace Stakes.

'But sometimes you have got to go and try to beat them and I`m keen to give it a go.'

The Manton trainer also confirmed his French 1000 Guineas winner Zenda on course to tackle the Entenmann`s-sponsored Irish equivalent on Sunday.

However, in contrast to Foreign Accent, Gosden would prefer a better racing surface for the Zamindar filly, whose only previous success had come in a maiden at Windsor last month.

'She`s in good form but I wouldn`t want to see much more rain for her,' he said.
