Akeed heads Beresford market

Akeed Mofeed is the 6/4 favourite with Paddy Power for the Juddmonte Beresford Stakes, the highlight of the Curragh’s Irish Pony Club Family Raceday this Sunday September 25.

The John Oxx-trained colt landed a Leopardstown maiden in impressive fashion earlier this month, while Aidan O’Brien has a numerically strong challenge as he bids to land this mile Group 2 event for the eleventh time.

The master of Ballydoyle has nine of the 14 entries including Furner's Green, David Livingston, Astrology, Athens, Secretary Of State and Wrote.

Parish Hall, runner-up to Dragon Pulse in the Galileo EBF Futurity Stakes over seven furlongs at the Curragh last month, represents Jim Bolger along with Whip Rule, while Dermot Weld is also double-handed with Hit The Jackpot and Blue White Fire.

Paddy Power bet: 6/4 Akeed Mofeed, 6/1 Furner's Green, 7/1 David Livingston, Parish Hall, 8/1 Astrology, 12/1 Athens, Tenth Star, Wrote, 16/1 Choir, 20/1 Blue White Fire, Hit The Jackpot, Secretary Of State, Vault, 25/1 Whip Rule. (All quoted)

Coral Wave moves up a grade following her impressive all the way success in the Listed Flame Of Tara EBF Stakes at this venue when she lines up in the Group 3 C L Weld Park Stakes.

The Patrick Prendergast-trained juvenile is one of 12 fillies to stand their ground in the seven furlong race which has also attracted Madhmoonah, Angel Bright, Lady Wingshot, Princess Sinead and Devotion.

A packed program of family entertainment during the afternoon will provide the Irish Pony Club with the opportunity to highlight their various activities.

One of the most exciting aspects of the initiative is a Jockey Skills Training Course, which will take place at the Racing Academy and Centre of Education (RACE) in Kildare town for ten Pony Club members aged between 13 and 15 years from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th September.

The overall winner will receive a week’s work experience with local trainer Michael Halford.

The first of seven races at the Curragh on Sunday commences at 2.10 pm, and the ground is currently described as yielding on the round course and yielding to soft on the straight course. Admission is €15, while under 16's are free.
