Akeed set for Beresford

Akeed Mofeed is being aimed at the Juddmonte Beresford Stakes at the Curragh on September 25 after he opened his account in an eyecatching manner.

The Dubawi colt, trained by John Oxx, romped home by five lengths in a seven-furlong maiden at Leopardstown last Saturday to confirm the promise of his debut run over the course and distance a month earlier.

"He'd run a good race on his first start. Something in the next stall bumped him on the head so he ran the first two furlongs a bit unconscious. Consequently he finished very well," said Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Jaber Abdullah.

"John (Oxx) gave us good vibes and thought the horse had improved considerably for his run there and he won well.

"It looked like it could be a good maiden and he looked a useful horse.

"He's running in the Beresford next and he'll definitely stay the mile.

"We'd prefer to run him on easy ground and we wouldn't want to run him on firm ground. I can't see it being firm in Ireland at the end of September."
