All roads lead to Aintree for Warne

Warne's campaign will revolve around the defence of his crown in the Crabbie's Fox Hunters' Chase at Aintree in April.

Trainer Brian Hamilton is planning to go the tried and tested route with the 10-year-old after it worked so well last term. A point-to-point in January followed by two possible runs at Leopardstown and Fairyhouse then another trip to Aintree is the programme Hamilton has mapped out.

Warne has been back in training a couple of months after spending the summer with his owner Robert Waley-Cohen. "Everything's good with him. Mr Waley-Cohen took him back to Banbury and he came back to me on the first of September," said the Downpatrick trainer.

"It's fairly simple. It's going to be the same route as last year. It worked last year so why change it.

"He'll run in a point-to-point at the end of January and then we'll probably go for that two-mile-five race at Fairyhouse again.

"He'll have a double penalty in that this year so he'll have to carry a bit more weight.

"We'll look at the race at Leopardstown, too, and we'll probably keep it the same, I would imagine.

"Everything's good with him at the minute.

"He's had a month's cantering already and I'll just keep cantering away at him until the end of November. We'll just very slowly bring him forward, but he's fine and we couldn't be happier with him so far.

"The Aintree Fox Hunters' is the end-of-season plan - we're going back to Liverpool. I don't think he'll be going to Cheltenham."
