Alpha Centauri's third foal wins at Roscommon Alpha Centauri’s third foal Proxima Centauri (7/4f) gained a first success today, impressively landing Roscommon’s SIS, Supporting Irish Racing Fillies & Mares Maiden for that star racemare’s trainer Jessica Harrington. Winner of four consecutive Group 1’s in 2018 including the Irish 1,000 Guineas, Alpha Centauri’s initial foals Saturn — a four-time winner, and unraced second-foal filly Earth, are both by Galileo while Proxima Centauri is by stallion Circus Maximus, who raced for the family’s owners the Niarchos family. Today, Proxima Centauri was having her second start of the year and, under Shane Foley, made all to win eased-down, beating runner-up Tina’s Charm with no fuss. Harrington, earlier on the mark with the Foley-partnered Echo Of Faith, reported “it’s great to get her a win and she did it easily. “She ran at the Curragh and took a blow that day. We’ve been waiting for a seven furlong or mile fillies maiden with her, that’s her distance. She’s got a touch of class. “I want to get black-type but hopefully they might keep her in training next year. She’s a big filly and she’ll only keep on improving.” Quotes from Gary Carson
