Amplitude opened his account in good style when running out a convincing winner of the nine furlong maiden at Gowran Park for trainer Joe Murphy.

The Invincible Army gelding went to post 4/1 favourite in the race, which was restricted to horses rated 70 or less.

Gary Carroll was soon in front and his mount stayed on strongly in the closing stages to record a six-length victory over Direct Approach

“We’re delighted. He just takes a while to warm up and I don’t think he’s a fully mature horse yet,” said Murphy.

“It was a nice race for him and we'll see what the handicapper does before making a plan.

“I could see him making a nice three-year-old hurdler. He needs that soft ground.”
