Ansar Set To Face Maximum Field In Galway Plate Hat-Trick Bid

The Dermot Weld trained Ansar, winner of the William Hill Galway Plate for the last two years, is likely to face a maximum 21 rivals in Wednesday's feature.

A seven time winner over the course from just nine outings there over the last number of years and successful in the 2001 Guinness Galway Hurdle, this ever popular course specialist is likely to start favourite to complete a hat-trick of victories and give trainer Dermot Weld a fifth success in the race having saddled Kiichi to win in 1990 and General Idea three years later.

Leading fancies Euro Leader, Coast To Coast, Banasan and last year's runner up Ursumman still remain while recent Killarney winner, Teo Perugo, from the Eugene O'Sullivan stable, is also an intended starter. David Wachman's Manjoe is quietly fancied to run well on his favoured good ground while trainer Noel Meade has left in last year's Galway Hurdle winner, More Rainbows, winner of two of his four steeplechases to date.
