Smart hurdler Anzadam made the perfect start to his chasing career when easily landing the Into Kildare Beginners Chase at Naas.

Sent off 8/13f under Paul Townend, the Willie Mullins-trained gelding chased leader Eachtotheirown for much of the two-mile contest.

With the penultimate fence being omitted, the Mrs Joe Donnelly owned six-year-old came through to lead at the last before surging clear for an impressive seven-length win.

“I was much happier with the way he settled in the race than he has been over hurdles,” said Mullins.

“I think he enjoys his jumping and it takes his mind off being too keen.

“I'm looking forward to a nice season with him if he can keep improving like that.

“He has natural ability, but he doesn't often get to use it because he's too enthusiastic. Fences seem to temper that.

“I'd imagine Christmas will be a nice plan.”

Paddy Power went 10/1 from 25/1 about Anzadam for the Arkle Chase.
