Arcano remains unbeaten in July Stakes

Brian Meehan's Arcano maintained his unbeaten record with an impressive display in the TNT July Stakes at Newmarket this afternoon.

The Oasis Dream colt was sent off the 7/4 favourite having won a strong maiden at Newbury on his debut, and was always travelling well in the hands of Martin Dwyer.

Long-time leader Orpen Grey proved a tough nut to crack at the head of affairs, but Arcano scythed through the pack and wore him down to take the Group Two prize by three-quarters of a length.

Dwyer said: "I was very impressed, he did it well, I think he could be a proper horse. He's still a baby and I didn't want to get there too soon and be in front on my own because he is still learning.

"The Guineas is a long way off but there is no reason why he shouldn't stay a mile as he's pretty raw at the minute and he's nowhere near his best. He's got plenty of potential and plenty of scope."

Meehan said: "I'm delighted with him and he's a star of a horse. We'll take him back home, have a chat with Martin and his owners and think about plans.

"The Prix Morny is a race that comes to mind and I think he'll improve again for going seven furlongs. This is only his second run and he's still raw and babyish. He's a horse who is going to get a mile in time and is an exciting colt who we will have a lot of fun with."
