Ascot defies economic downturn Royal Ascot defied the current tough economic climate with attendance and betting figures up on all five days compared with 12 months ago. Yesterday's crowd figure of 76,955 was the highest of the week, with the total attendance over the five days amounting to 294,384. The Tote turnover was also up on all five days of the meeting, with the five day aggregate of £7,768,615 showing an increase of 9% on the 2010 total.
