Galway trainer Brian Cawley sent Ask Blossomfort across the Irish Sea for a successful raid on Ayr today.

The 17/2 shot took the Coral 'Fail To Finish' Free Bets Mares' Handicap Hurdle by a healthy five and a half lengths after grabbing the lead two out.

The trainer's brother Alain Cawley did the steering and said: "I haven't ridden a winner for him before. I don't ride for him as I don't get home that often.

"My little brother Paul does a lot of work with him at home. Even if I was at home, I don't know if I would get him out of the way!

"It's great for my brother as it is very competitive in Ireland. Thankfully, she got the job done and I got a bit of a kick out of it riding for my brother.

"She travelled everywhere and she jumped everywhere and, to be fair, my brother told me she was in good nick and she'll stay going. He was spot on."

This was Ask Blossomfort's first victory on her seventh racecourse start.

There were two other Irish winners on the card - Karl Thornton's Shanroe Al C landed the extended three mile handicap chase by a length and three quarters, and Stuart Crawford's Carnfunnock stretched away to justify 11/8 favouritism in the bumper.
