Asset And Jack Two Highs On A Quiet Day

On a wet and windy day, that allowed only the all-weather card at Kempton to go ahead, Asset; the impressive winner of yesterdays Intercasino.co.uk Easter Stakes, at Kempton, was again a positive in the Stan James 2000 Guineas market.

Richard Hannon´s highly rated youngster was supported from 25-1 to 20-1, for the Newmarket Classic, having been supported post race on Saturday from 33-1 to 25-1.

As the rain continues to fall, across England, all eyes will be on Aintree with a view to the going for next weeks John Smith´s Grand National. Currently described as Good to Soft (Soft in places) there is a chance that the ground will get softer as, despite the likelihood of three dry days at the start of the week, the forecast for the back end of the week is for the rain to return.

The forecast, and continued precipitation, may have been the inspiration for some interest in the Ted Walsh trained Jack High. Carrying 10-7, in the big race, the 11 year old has the credentials to put in a good performance, including winning form on soft and heavy ground in Ireland. Available at 16-1, at the start of the day, the gelding is now rated the 14-1 joint fourth favourite having been as big as 25-1 in recent weeks.

Another interesting move has been for the Nicky Henderson trained Juveigneur, who was trimmed from 40-1 to 33-1. There would be some doubts as to the suitability of the softening ground but the nine year old goes to Aintree in good form having finished a credible second in the William Hill Handicap Chase, at Cheltenham, behind Dun Doire
