Auclair Heads Scottish Possibles

Royal Auclair tops a list of 48 horses left in Saturday's Gala Casinos Daily Record Scottish Grand National at the five-day stage.

Paul Nicholls' nine-year-old is set to shoulder top weight of 11st 12lb in the four-mile-one-furlong contest, the highlight of Ayr's two-day meeting.

The Ditcheat handler, who finished a narrow second with Cornish Rebel last year, also has L'Aventure, Ladalko and Heros Collonges among a squad of four.

Paul Keane has progressive performer All In The Stars still engaged, while Nicky Henderson's Juveigneur could bid for compensation after crashing out at the first fence in the Grand National at Aintree.

Ferdy Murphy's Joes Edge, who won the race as a novice 12 months ago, stands his ground, as does Tom George's Royal & SunAlliance Chase runner-up Idle Talk, while Darkness and Zabenz, third and fifth respectively in that race, could reoppose.

The going at the Scottish track is currently described as good to soft, soft in places.

Clerk of the course Anthea Morshead said: 'There's a mix of showers and wind forecast so I'd be happy to go into the weekend with the going the way it is now.'
