Ayr abandoned after pile-up Racing at Ayr this afternoon had to be abandoned after three races following a nasty pile up. There were 12 runners in the victorchandler.com Handicap, and seven of them ended up on the floor. The race was won by James Bethell's Whaston (12-1) who made every yard of the running, enabling him to escape the carnage in behind. Darfour and Danny Tudhope originally lost their footing and while managing to stay on board, Tudhope lost his irons. Freddie Tylicki was not so lucky on Balwearie though as he slipped up and came down, bringing five others down. In a separate incident Amy Ryan came down on Neon Blue, a fair way away from the others which meant more than one area was under scrutiny when a deputation of officials, jockeys and trainers took part in an inspection. The difficulties arose when heavy rain fell in the morning on top of ground that was due to be very fast. Joe Fanning, the rider of All In The Red, was the only jockey to pick up a serious injury. The Scotsman broke his left collar-bone and is set for a spell on the sidelines.
