Back Burner fulfils his promise

Back Burner shed his maiden tag at Cork in good style by five lengths from outsider Hurricane Twister .

This son of Big Bad Bob, trained by Jessica Harrington, was heavily backed from 11/2 to 3/1 favourite and scored readily after three previous promising runs in maiden company.

The win gave Jockey Fran Berry a double for the day. He said: “He did it well and might stay further.”

Hurricane Twister belied his odds of 66/1 by edging out Mereli for second place. Mereli representing Mick Halford and Johnny Murtagh drifted in the market from 5/2 to 7/2.

Jim Bolger's Shazamour was well supported in to 9/2 after her fourth place finish at Listowel on debut but came home sixth.
