Bad fall for Dwyer at Southwell Martin Dwyer suffered a horrible fall from Columbian Roulette when looking to have the opening race at Southwell his mercy. The 2006 Derby-winning jockey was dramatically unseated when the Charlie Hills-trained colt jinked violently to the left inside the final furlong. Dwyer had a clear lead on the 6-4 favourite when he was thrown out of the saddle, handing the 32Red Handicap to the Richard Guest-trained It's All A Game (5-1), ridden by 3lb claimer Billy Cray. Cray told At The Races: "I don't know what happened. I hope Martin's all right. One minute he was there, the next he wasn't." Dwyer received immediate medical attention on the track before being taken to hospital, with racing delayed as a consequence. Reports were that Dwyer was unconscious for a spell but had regained consciousness before going to hospital, being accompanied by the racecourse doctor. Dwyer was taken by ambulance to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham and Dwyer's agent Simon Dodds believes the rider could be kept in hospital overnight. He said: "He was unconscious for six minutes, so he's looking at a one- or two-week break. "I've obviously had to take him off all of his rides tonight (at Wolverhampton). "He might be kept in hospital overnight, but it just depends on how he feels and how he is - we'll know more in the next few hours."
