Pat Fahy is keen to let Ballybacka Queen take her chance in the Etihad Airways Irish 1,000 Guineas later this month following an excellent run in defeat at Leopardstown.

The daughter of Hurricane Run showed some smart form as a juvenile and turned in arguably a career-best effort when coming from a long way back to finish third in Sunday's Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial on her seasonal return.

Dermot Weld's winner Afternoon Sunlight and the Aidan O'Brien-trained runner-up Palace both look bound for the Irish Guineas and having been beaten just a length, Fahy sees no reason why his filly should not line up at the Curragh on Sunday week.

"It was a great run and she was probably a bit unlucky on the day," said the trainer.

"She's still improving and I think she'll keep improving as she steps up in trip.

"We're happy to stick a mile for the time being, though, and all being well she'll definitely have a crack at the Irish Guineas.

"She's in good form, has come out of the race well and I think she's well entitled to be there."
