Reynaldothewizard (9/1) was a surprise winner of the Dubai Golden Shaheen Sponsored By Gulf News at Meydan.

The ex-Australian runner Mental was sent off a very well-backed favourite following a successful Dubai debut for his new connections but the Godolphin-owned runner was never placed to challenge.

Frederick Engels blew his chance at the start as the speedy American challengers Trinniberg and Private Zone helped cut out the early pace along with Taisei Legend.

Gordon Lord Byron appeared to be well placed behind the pace on the rail but found trouble and failed to make his presence felt as Richard Mullen hit the front aboard Reynaldothewizard.

All eyes were looking for Mental to pick up as he had done in February but the challenge never materialised and Satish Seemar's seven year old just had enough in the locker to keep the challengers at bay.

He had to dig deep, however, to see off Balmont Mast who represented Eddie Lynam and Johnny Murtagh who had teamed up with fourth home Sole Power in the Al Quoz Sprint.

Last year's winner, Krypton Factor, returned to form to claim third.
